WHAT WE DO
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) Ministry is devoted to faith formation for individuals who are interested in becoming members of the Catholic faith, or baptized Catholics who wish to return to the Catholic faith.
WHO WE ARE
Our Ministry meets every Monday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. beginning in September and ending in June. It consists of:
(1) an experienced team of Catechists (teachers);
(2) Catechumens (those seeking the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation);
(3) Candidates (those seeking the Sacraments of First Eucharist and/or Confirmation); and
(4) Sponsors (one for each Catechumen or Candidate).
A wide array of materials is provided to help each participant on his or her spiritual journey, including Journey of Faith Handouts, the New American Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Handbook for Today's Catholic, and other resources.
HOW YOU CAN BECOME INVOLVED
Interested participants should pray about this important commitment and contact the parish office to discuss their desire to receive Sacraments as either a Catechumen or a Candidate. Depending on the participants' unique circumstances, Sacraments are conferred either at St. Joseph Marello Parish at the Easter Vigil, or in May at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
