The service provides up-to-date materials on Christian faith as free loaners to help the parishioners grow their love for God, themselves and all others at their own pace. Relying on the Catholic education received during the school years has become insufficient in a world that challenges our core beliefs every day. We need to learn how to defend and deepen our faith, know and glorify God through a never-ending process of perfecting our life according to His will and plan for each one of us.
We cannot really love God without knowing Him. As in our professional life we never stop learning, studying and keeping abreast with the latest methodologies and technologies, so we must in our spiritual life, which is the most important. Listening to a short homily on Sunday is not going to cut it. We need to tap into over 3500 years of recorded divine intervention and planning in our destiny as humankind, and the vast studies by theologians and apologists in the last two millenia. Not to mention the special role and revelations of saints in our history after Jesus.
Nowadays, we can access an enormous amount of information on any topic on the Web. However, it takes some research to separate valuable and reliable sources from questionable ones. Also, organizing the information in a constructive way takes time and effort. Instead of each one of us repeating the same process, a few can put together the best resources on a number of topics and offer them to all parishioners. This is the spirit of the Lending Library Service.
